She was the youngest of seven, seven
She grew up on Louisa Street
Chaos around, but inside cozy
Small, but a mansion in her eyes
Eyes, eyes, mansion
—Lisa Sawyer by Leon Bridges
Lisa was born in New Orleans, the subject of this week’s Bonus Track. We’ve curated a NOLA playlist for some friends headed to the Big Easy soon for a conference, and we want to share it with you. Thank you Adam Tait for the heavy lifting on this playlist.
Before we get to the playlist, here are three songs in our ears this week.
Caamp | Believe (Ben)
This is a band whose collection I don’t know deeply, but come back to for short spurts regularly. This song is from their new (2022) album and is a simple lyrical tune. It builds and shows off Taylor Meier’s vocals. This is an album you can play straight through on a long summer road trip and enjoy as a travel soundtrack.

Judah & the Lion | Cover of Sheryl Crow’s Soak up the Sun (Kody)
I love Sheryl’s original and I love this cover of the song by Judah and the Lion. Our family blasted it nonstop during our vacations to San Diego when we lived out west.
Never forget these words of wisdom:
“It's not having what you want
It's wanting what you've got.”
Also available on Apple Music.
Danno Simpson | Appetite (Jonathan)
I stumbled upon this Texas-born, Colorado-based singer/songwriter just last week based on a Spotify recommendation. I’ve really enjoyed the songs I’ve been able to listen to so far. Most of his music tells stories that are filled with emotion. This particular song I chose has a great sound and includes a warning that would be good for all of us to heed. Our appetites can leave a wake of destruction in our lives and others around us.

Bonus Track: NOLA Playlist Curated by Adam Tait, Mat Alexander, and Twitter Friends
This is going to be a very short Bonus Track! We’re honestly shocked we’ve been able to produce weekly music-inspired reflection pieces over the last five months since we started this newsletter. We’re extremely grateful you’ve followed along and read our content. From time to time, the Bonus Tracks will feature simpler entries, but they’ll still be fun and swappable. Enjoy this playlist inspired by the Birthplace of Jazz. How can you not love N'awlins?!
What NOLA songs did we miss? Wherever you are, we hope you’re soaking up the summer sun!

This playlist makes me say "Uhh"
You’ve got the formula right—and doing it weekly is no mean feat, too. I mean, I did daily; that’s why I shifted to monthly! Keep going!
